A rather elaborate house boat – from Kerala
It is amazing how far this new industry in Kerala has come in the past few years. Hand built – and started by a smart guy who saw the gap left by the houseboats Srinagar, J&K – today they have reached such amazing sophistication while still keeping the Kerala flavour. I certainly would like to spend few days on one of these sometime soon. I just wonder what have they come up with to take care

of the mosquitos :-)!
Wow, that’s one cool houseboat!! Can’t wait to take a vacation in Kerala!
have heard they cost an arm and a leg – and they charge in USD no less. Have always wanted to try one of those – but then the "muttathe mullakku manamilla" syndrome also is partly to blame.
Well, the trick is to use your contacts out in Kerala and get a booking directly with the boat owner rather than going through an agency who invariably takes the lions share of what we pay!
About "muttathe mulla," the problem for me is that when I go back home – at best its for 3 – 4 weeks. And I can’t convince myself that its perhaps a good idea to go away for few days to be on this boat instead of staying with Amma, Achan, Achamma, Ammumma etc. So I don’t even think about it 🙂 I am sure some time during the coming decade I might get a chance to go and work in India – will postpone it till then.
