In pictures: Papua’s ‘lost world’
Update: While still quite an interesting find, the whole thing was hyped up. It seems this place was found quite a long time back by some other scientists and now the team was just revisiting the same place. I wonder why even prominent players too take such incredibly stupid steps!
An international team of scientists says it has found a "lost world" in the Indonesian
jungle that is home to dozens of new animal and plant species.
"It’s as close to the Garden of Eden as you’re going to find on Earth," said Bruce Beehler, co-leader of the group. The team recorded new butterflies, frogs, and a series of remarkable plants that included five new palms and a giant rhododendron flower. The survey also found a honeyeater bird that was previously unknown to science.
the trouble is that when we find a garden of eden like this, we may be destroying/have destroyed hundreds of gardens of eden 🙁
hey which is the plugin you use to get the dropdown box for ‘categories’ and ‘archives’? or is it all with the theme? it is helpful as it saves some space. between, the calendar in your blog is nice but simply takes a lot of space and i doubt if it is useful to anyone?
Well, regarding destroying such gardens, it is kind of inevitable. Its always a dilemma – like when the Brazilian government had to decide to avoid anyone contacting some tribes in the Amazon basin or even our own Indian government wanting to avoid contacts with tribes in Andaman Nicobar Islands.
Is it fair to leave them out of the development? (Whatever it is worth, it has improved life in someway, and excluding anyone is not going to save them from the overall destruction of environment anyway!)
